After a long battle with wealthy sides Chelsea and Manchester City, Liverpool now confirm the deal with Glen Johnson. The transfer fee will be £ 17.5 million, which both City and Chelsea also were willing to offer for the defender. All up to Johnson, the defender decided Liverpool was the best alternative.
Pompey still owe Liverpool money in the region of £ 7 million for last year’s signing of Peter Crouch, which will most likely be a part of the deal.
Johnson is Liverpool’s first big signing for the summer, and may lead the way out of Anfield for Andrea Dossena and/or Alvaro Arbeloa. The two mentioned players have been linked to major clubs.
Glen McLeod Cooper Johnson, born August 23rd 1984 in Greenwhich, has formerly played for Millwall, West Ham and Chelsea, as well as Portsmouth. The last signing, taking him from Chelsea to Portsmouth was worth £ 4 million.
The right back showed impressive ability last season, and has been a regular for Capello’s England. He has made 15 international appearances, scoring no goals this far.
