Fernando Torres extends his contract

Fernando Torres has just signed a new improved one year extension to the contract with Liverpool, having him his stay with The Reds to 2014. His new contract, worth an incredible £110 000 a week will make him the club’s second most paid player, with just captain Steven Gerrard making more money.

Manager Benitez is very pleased with the striker’s performance over his two years at Anfield. Torres, having scored 50 goals in only 83 matches, is still young and will only get better. Benitez claims every major club wants a player with Torres’ quality in the team, and that he is delighted to see Torres make another commitment with Liverpool. The manager has previously this year also signed a new contract, alongside captain Gerrard, Kuyt and Agger.

This proves the club’s serious intention to make the next step to the top next season, and commiting such important players for a long term is great news.
