As Liverpool miss out on the chance of signing Gareth Barry, Real Madrid are not giving up on Xabi Alonso. They have now announced a bid of £20 million, and will be trying to persuade Alonso that a move back to his native country would be good for him. Alonso’s last season was world class, and Liverpool will probably find it very hard to let him go.
Benitez is reportedly looking for an approach of £5 million on Middlesbrough striker Tuncay as well as midfielder Gareth O’Neil. He is also not willing to give up signing winger David Silva from Valencia. Recent rumors also say a bid of £2 million will be placed in an attempt to sign Sylvain Distin. The 31 year old Frenchman currently plays for Portsmouth and has one year left of his contract.
